A car finance claim is a way for you to request compensation if your PCP or HP agreement wasn’t sold to you fairly.
A huge number of drivers ended up paying higher interest rates because commissions paid to dealers or brokers weren’t properly explained.
If those commissions weren’t made clear to you at the time, you may be entitled to compensation - with the average payout around £700 per agreement (Source: Financial Conduct Authority).
If your claim is upheld, you could receive compensation that includes:
Our goal is always to achieve the strongest possible result for you.
It’s strongly recommended that you raise your claim as early as possible. Anyone who submits a complaint before the FCA’s proposed redress scheme begins is likely to be dealt with sooner than those who wait.
If you leave it too long, you could lose your right to make a claim altogether. So if you’re unsure whether you’re eligible, it’s worth checking now rather than later.
At the moment, the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has put a temporary pause on how lenders handle motor finance complaints while it reviews the industry and waits for the outcome of certain court cases.
Because of this pause, lenders aren’t required to give any formal responses until 4 December 2025. The FCA is also considering extending this pause to 31 July 2026, although this proposed extension wouldn’t apply to complaints involving leasing agreements.
Once the pause ends, lenders will go back to the standard rules, meaning they’ll have up to 8 weeks to issue their final response.
Yes, you can. If you’ve taken out finance on several vehicles, you may be able to submit a claim for each agreement that was potentially mis-sold.
Each finance agreement is assessed on its own, which means you could receive compensation for every PCP or HP deal that wasn’t handled correctly.
Yes, you can. These types of complaints can usually be taken to a statutory ombudsman, a compensation scheme, or an alternative dispute resolution service, which means you’re able to submit a claim on your own, free of charge, without needing anyone to represent you.
That said, doing it yourself can take a fair bit of time. You may need to collect the right paperwork, raise a formal complaint with your lender, and clearly set out how you believe the agreement was mis-sold. If your lender rejects your complaint or doesn’t respond, you’d then need to escalate it to the Financial Ombudsman Service.
With us, the whole process is handled for you from start to finish, and we work on a no-win, no-fee basis, making it completely hassle-free.
Please note: the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) may introduce a consumer redress scheme in the future. If this happens, it could allow you to bring a claim yourself at no cost. The FCA’s consultation on this proposed scheme is open until 12 December 2025.
